The Poor Boy Can't Dance

Well I don't know what to say to the prettiest bridesmaid
And It's easy for some, but you got me stunned and dumb
And you know how it is when a man gets down
He won't know love from a hole in the ground
But I'm sick of the wait, and I'm sick of the fear
And it ends right here
Things were bad for me; I came across the sea
Never knowing just what I'd do
I got you old man doused at the the public house
And he took me on his crew
So I worked my way; showed up every day
And I was like an only son
Oh, I was a lonely one
And you know I do, whenever I see you
I always try to avert my eyes
But you caught my gaze as the glasses raise
And we toast the groom and bride
And though you're in the sight of every man tonight
I keep telling it to myself
"If the whisky's strong, and the band plays on, I can do no wrong."
So dance with me, won't you dance with me
Little Katie don't you turn me down
I been in a rut, but I could get the guts
If I can make it through one more round
And when the music stops, little goldilocks
In my heart you can confide
Hand in hand in the English Countryside
I had a girl back home. She left me all alone
Said I was born with two left feet
And that's the truth of it. You know I must admit
I can barely walk down the street
But if it takes one more to get me on that floor
Let me see what I can do
To spend some time with you
So dance with me, won't you dance with me
Little Katie don't you turn me down
I been in a rut, but I could get the guts
If I can make it through one more round
And when the music stops, little goldilocks
In my heart you can confide
Arm in Arm in the English Countryside
Alright.
And now we're face to face with my hands around your waist
And out here where we meet, there's no floor beneath my feet
You never had your fun with an American
But I can tell you that it's alright
Oh, Katie you're on my mind
So dance with me, won't you dance with me
Little Katie don't you turn me down
I been in a rut, but I could get the guts
If I can make it through one more round
And when the music stops, little goldilocks
In my heart you can confide
Lay you down in the English Countryside

Rich As A Rolling Stone

She asked if I believe in god above
I said, "Girl, you are living proof."
She said, "Young men, they get away with so much when they thing they're telling the truth."
So I thought, "I will give this up. Save what's left of my breath and pride."
Then she wrapped me in a love so tight.
Oh, she blew my mind
And the wind blew through my room. It was over all too soon
A moment so fine who's heart was locked up tight
But her soul, it was alright
"Love is sacred, oh, love is strange. Love works in mysterious ways."
She said, "I gave it up in my younger days. And I made up my mind. So down with love songs and down with hope. Down with poets and singers, I swear. When I get to the end of my rope, who will I find there?"
I heard a voice but saw no face. In the dark she turned away and whispered so quiet, "Of this you can believe: you were merely pain relief."
"Lovely one, won't you spend the night?"
She said, "I always sleep alone. I can't do just whatever I want. See, I've got a little girl at home. And I promised her the kind of man I would make my own would be beautiful like Buddy Holly and rich as a Rolling Stone."
"Oh, your heart, it does confound. Was I the warmest one around? I know fools ask why. I've used all of my best lines, so won't you let yourself be mine?"
"Strong as coffee and sweet as cream. Don't you know I like girls that way. And I got no use for the younger ones, 'cause they got nothing to say. And it's best if you don't ask questions of how I came into my own. But I'm beautiful like Buddy Holly and rich as a Rolling Stone."

Shadowman

I laid in the schoolyard with my face in the sand
There were bruises on my neck from an angry bully's hand
But when you came out to meet him, he was running like a deer
And you said, "Your brother's here."
And you'd think I'd be happy you were looking out for me
But how great you were and small I was was all that I could see
And a younger brother's envy bored its way into my heart
And it was just a start
And the old man always thought that you were the one
In our father's eyes, you were an only son
I lived in fear, but you took it like a man when the discipline hand came down
There's a hole in my heart, and it won't close up
I'd love you if I didn't hate you so much
Oh brother of mine I'm living in a long, dark shadow
And in the war you were fierce bravado
All the while behind you in the mud I cowered
We both made it home, but on you they shone the light
And it was only right
And I had so many girls, and pretty ones too
But the only one I wanted only wanted you
And in the summer pines, you put a ring upon her hand
And I was your best man
There's a hole in my heart, and it won't close up
I'd love you if I didn't hate you so much
Oh brother of mine I'm living in a long, dark shadow
As years went by I dreamed of ways to put you in your place
When your wife and child were seeing a new darkness in your face
And in the brown eyed gaze that had been steadfast and strong
There was something wrong
And the confusion I was feeling, no tongue could ever tell
When the doctor came into the room and said, "He won't get well. There's a cancer in his brain and a swarm upon his cells. And it won't be very long."
And all this time I have been drunk on this obsession of mine
Where were you in all that madness? Where was I?
I prayed to the lord above for my soul to save
When I looked down at your body and they placed you in your grave
My life has been a measure trying to live up to your fate
And now I'll have to wait
And tears from your woman's eyes were falling like rain
And I reached my hand out to her, but it all turned out in vain
She looked at me and said, "No girl can ever kill the pain."
And she turned her face away.
There's a hole in my heart, and it won't close up
I'd hate you if I didn't love you so much
Oh brother of mine I'm living in a long, dark shadow
